Things I Made: Christmas Edition

This year, I wanted Christmas to feel especially handmade.

My list of crafty creations include:
-a burlap wreath for our front door
-3 burlap stockings (complete with fabric lining, hand stamped/hand stitched name tags)
-a tree full of cinnamon-applesauce ornaments (and a few clay ones that I didn't take pictures of)

...and a partridge in a pear tree...just kidding

Josie's stocking lined with a sweet cookie fairy fabric

I'd like to think that since I put so much time and energy into making things this Christmas, that next Christmas won't be so craft-crazy....but I know that's not going to happen. There's always fun new projects that I want to try.

I absolutely love the idea of filling our home with things that no one else has. The only way to do that is to create one-of-a kind items, then display them throughout our home. Plus, I have very eclectic taste and I find it difficult to find items in stores that really speak to me.

this took lots of buttons..and lots of hot glue
Did I mention that this year was the first time in over 10 years that I've used a sewing machine! Craziness!

It'll be fun to see how my skills and tastes change over the next few years.

(I put A LOT of love into all of these decorations. I think a new family tradition for us is going to be only using ornaments that we've made ourselves. It'll make the holiday season feel that much more special.)

  1. You home looks beautifully decorated Abbie, and it so very much speaks of you, Tim & Josie, and the life you are building together as a family. I've no doubt the traditions you begin this year will bring you closer each year to come...especially as Josie begins helping with the creation of some of these very special decorations. Well done honey!
    I love you! xox Mommie

  2. Love all the homemade stuff! The stockings and wreath are natural and earthy looking. I made homemade lime green velour stockings shortly after we were married and we still have them. It's heart-warming to bring out the lovingly crafted items year after year.

  3. Beautiful projects!!! Great job! I have that same sense of home-y-ness this year as well. It just seems like a year that begs for homemade things. I've done a lot of sewing in the past for Christmas's but I think this is the biggest year for crafting. I love your sense of style...and the lovely tradition of making Christmas count...whatever the individual things you do from year to year end up being. (I wanna eat those cookie ornaments!)
